Annualised Hours

We regularly come across organisations where the demands on time and activity are seasonal or variable but all the staff are on set hours contracts. Result? Periods of frenetic activity intersperced with boredom and inactivity. The trick is to revise working patterns so that the hours people work are when they are needed and the periods when they are not needed can be saved up as extra leisure time.
A recent exercise in a big company reduced the requirement for agency temps by over 70%, reorganised the staff hours within the European Working Time Directive and increased staff holidays from four to six weeks whilst every hour that was worked was a needed hour.
